A rough reading aid, not exact pronunciation. Hyphens separate syllables. Listen first, then try with hints hidden. “eu” is said with unrounded lips; “uh” only approximates ㅓ. Doubled consonants are tense, not extra syllables. Do not add a vowel after a final consonant.
Six phrases you can use today
Korean uses two number systems. Native Korean numbers are common when counting things with a counter. Sino-Korean numbers are used for prices. This lesson practices one small part of each system, not every number.

개 is a general counter for things. 하나 changes to 한 before this counter.
두 개 주세요
Sound hintdoo geh joo-seh-yoh
du gae juseyo
Two items, please.
둘 changes to 두 before 개.
세 개 주세요
Sound hintseh geh joo-seh-yoh
se gae juseyo
Three items, please.
셋 changes to 세 before 개.
천 원이에요
Sound hintchuh nwuh-nee-eh-yoh
cheon wonieyo
It’s 1,000 won.
천 means one thousand. 원 is Korean won.
오천 원이에요
Sound hintoh-chuh nwuh-nee-eh-yoh
ocheon wonieyo
It’s 5,000 won.
오 means five in Sino-Korean numbers; 오천 is five thousand.
만 원이에요
Sound hintmah nwuh-nee-eh-yoh
man wonieyo
It’s 10,000 won.
만 means ten thousand. These are practice prices, not current product prices.

Build a price in thousands
For prices, 일, 이, 삼, 사, 오 mean one through five. 천 is a thousand, so 이천 원 is 2,000 won, 삼천 원 is 3,000 won and 오천 원 is 5,000 won. Do not use 두천 for 2,000. If a price is hard to catch, look at the display or ask staff to show you.
